Tesco is the first retailer to offer same-day grocery delivery across the UK.
Nationwide roll-out covering 99% of UK households
Tesco has announced a nationwide roll-out of its same-day delivery service, which launched three years ago across London and the South East. It will soon become available across the UK, from the Shetland Islands to Cornwall, covering 99% of UK households. The roll-out is expected to be completed next month.

The British Retail Consortium research found that there were reductions in hours worked on both full-time and part-time contracts.
Helen Dickinson, chief executive of the British Retail Consortium, said: “The second quarter of 2017 saw employment in retail fall as the tide of change continues to sweep through the industry. Technology, which is both transforming the way we shop and providing increasing opportunities for automation in retail, combined with a difficult market environment and policies that have increased the cost of employing people, such as the National Living Wage and the Apprenticeship Levy, are driving the industry towards fewer but more productive jobs.”
Mike Ashley’s Sports Direct has increased its stake in French Connection to 27%, taking it close to a level at which it must launch a takeover bid.
Sports Direct has bought out activist investors, including Gatemore Capital Management – a London-based hedge fund that had an 8% stake – and OTK, an investment firm that owned about 7%, to add to an existing 11% stake.
Under takeover rules, a shareholder owning shares worth 30% or more of a company’s stock must launch a formal takeover bid.
Tesco has become the first UK supermarket to cover the cost of the tampon tax for customers, after it cut the price of nearly 100 women’s sanitary products by 5%.
The retailer said that the move – which sees Tesco absorb the cost of VAT, set at 5% on sanitary items – would help women who found themselves in financial difficulty.

The grocery giant recorded a sales drop 3.2 per cent to £21.7 billion in its full-year period ending December 31, while pre-tax profits slumped by almost 19 per cent to £791.7 million.
Like-for-like sales also took a battering at the Walmart-owned retailer, dropping by 5.7 per cent.

A Sydney woman awarded $151,000 after slipping on a grape in a Woolworths supermarket has lost her case on appeal.
Colleen McQuillan had successfully sued the supermarket giant after falling over in the fruit and vegetable section of the Leichhardt store in November 2012.
But the NSW court of appeal on Monday upheld Woolworths’ appeal and dismissed McQuillan’s claim, finding the company had not been negligent over the grape, which the three judges said had been of an unknown colour.
Amazon has announced plans to build a new fulfilment centre in Bristol creating more than 1000 new jobs.
Currently it boasts 13 fulfilment centres across the country, with plans to build four more in Dunstable, Doncaster, Tilbury and Warrington by the end of the year.
The new centre in Bristol, expected to be completed in 2018, will mark Amazon’s 18th in the UK and will pile 1000 more jobs onto the 24,000 already employed in the UK.
